Thanks for sticking with me as I find my way through the world of cabaret, song cycles, and the inner world of Hillary Clinton. I will sing my old songs and play guitar again soon, but in the meantime, I am thrilled to tell you:
"Witness" has been selected to be part of the New York International Fringe Festival in October!!
I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to bring the show into a multi-disciplinary/ theatrical context, where I think it really belongs. More details soon.
Maude Gun is a punk/art-folk feminist duo and they blew me away when I saw them live last year. Their song cycle Claudia, The Word is based on the story of Claudia Quinta, a Roman matron who delivered the goddess Cybele to Rome in 204 BC. You gotta see it. They are really something.
I love playing songs for State Senate races:
April's "Witness" show at Sid Gold's raised a good chunk of funds for Alessandra Biaggi's NY State Senate campaign (District 34: Bronx/Westchester). Alessandra, who was the Deputy Director of Operations, on Hillary's campaign, shared that her decision to run began the night of Hillary's defeat. Read more about Alessandra and follow her campaign: biaggi4ny.com
I went to a fundraiser for NY State Senate candidate Zellnor Myrie and got drafted to perform at the last second. It was a fun challenge to do my Hillary songs solo and without my costume! Zellnor is super smart, devoted to his neighborhood, and is running a terrific campaign to represent District 20 in Brooklyn. Read more: zellnorforstatesenate.com
Something else cool:
I will be playing a new song in Julie Gold's "A Little Knight Music" show at The Duplex on June 16.
Julie wrote her 1991 Grammy-winning song "From A Distance" on her childhood Knight piano. She believes it is possessed with magical powers, so she invites songwriters to her home to spend an hour alone with the piano. Eventually, she showcases the next crop of songs written on the Knight. I will be playing what I wrote, along with the last few musicians to visit the piano. Get Tickets.
Check out a new song we've added to the show about Russian Trolls! (In the song, Hillary gets a visit from Svetlana & Natasha, two Russian trolls who had a hand in her election loss. Deidre is so funny in this, I couldn't stop laughing at rehearsals.)
Enjoy the warm weather!
