So 2011, yeah, not too shabby. I released a studio album and a live album and played 51 shows. I really want to thank everyone who came to a live performance, bought a CD, spun me on the radio, set up a gig, ran sound for us, made us breakfast, etc. An extra special thanks goes to those generous folks who donated to make 'Viewfinder' possible. The record has been heard far and wide and has led to so many opportunities for me. Couldn't have done it without you!

Coming up in the new year:

- UK TOUR in January: Yep, we're doing a two week tour in the UK in the dead of winter! I've heard it's crazy cold there, like damp, in your bones cold. In preparation, Rich bought me the Coz-e Electric Heated Blanket with Sleeves (as seen on TV!) Hope that does the trick. We will be playing all over England and Wales and ending the tour in Scotland at Celtic Connections, an amazing music festival that takes over Glasgow in the winter time. (Due to some travel and time constraints, we are postponing our Holland and Germany shows till a later date.)

- NORTHWEST TOUR in March: It's been 4 years since we last saw the Pacific and I'm really excited to go back. We'll be supporting the Bay Area-based group Blame Sally on their northwest tour! Washington, Oregon, California, I hope you haven't forgotten about me! A few of the dates have been confirmed already and more will be added soon.

- REGIONAL SHOWS: We'll be playing locally in Brooklyn, the Hudson Valley, Long Island, Philadelphia, and more northeast cities TBA.

- NEW SONGS/NEW ALBUM: I hope to begin work on the next record by fall. I've got a bunch of new tunes and I can't wait to play 'em out in the new year. Here's a really nice sounding video of us playing one them:
I'll have free limited edition Rebecca Pronsky stickers and buttons at all my shows.

Don't forget CDs make great holiday gifts! Order direct from Nine Mile Records. They'll throw in RP stickers with your order too.

Thanks for keeping up with me and supporting my music! As always, find me on Twitter and Facebook for show announcements, words from the road, and general musings.

All the best for a good rest of 2011,
Rebecca
P.S. Need a laugh? My favorite thing on the internet is this.

Today I am digitally releasing a free live album, which features selections from a recent performance at Atlanta's great listening room Eddie's Attic. The wonderful soundman there, Shalom Aberle, recorded and mixed the show on the fly and it sounded real sweet, so we decided to put it out there for free download.

Live albums are cool cause there's no re-dos and all the silly banter is included. If you haven't seen me play in a while, it'll make up for my absence in touring your way. There's also a previously unrecorded tune on there!

Hope you enjoy it! Go get your free copy of "Live at Eddie's Attic."

Many early 2012 tour dates to be announced in the next couple months. Will keep you posted.

Thanks!
Rebecca

Well hello there,

What a great / freaky summer it's been. In New York City, we had an earthquake and a hurricane in the space of one week. Cause that's TOTALLY normal (ahem)! When the earthquake happened, I felt my apartment sway and rock. Soon after, I checked Facebook and Twitter to discover, quite unexpectedly, that my friends in Pittsburgh, DC, western MA and North Carolina had all just had the same experience. It was the first time in my life that I have experienced the same thing at the same time as people hundreds of miles away. It was like a briefly existing hive mind or that scene in Close Encounters where all those strangers dream about that same mountain where the alien ship is going to land.

This summer has been exciting in non-natural-disaster ways too:

* I bought a beautiful new instrument and have already written a couple tunes on it. It's a 1936 tenor guitar, one of the early electric instruments and it sounds fan-freakin-tastic. I will bring it to all the upcoming shows that I can.

* The band and I ventured out to Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia and did some fun shows in the super hot late July weather. The drives were pretty epic, around 7 hours per day, so we developed a deep appreciation for satellite radio, especially the "90s on 9" and "80s on 8" stations. Check out a quick silly video of a van sing along here.

* Rich and I worked at a rock n roll camp for kids which is always absurd and hilarious. Some of the names of the bands the kids formed were: Filthy Rich, Deep Fried Platypus,Time Machine, Public Indecency, Undead Battery, and Fire Breathing Shrimp. Not too shabby!

* We've been working on new songs involving more ethereal sounds and new ideas for instrumentation and have a couple choice covers in the works that will surprise and, hopefully delight. I'll play as much new stuff as I have ready at all shows this fall.

My plans for the rest of 2011 include shows in NY, NJ, PA, NC, GA, MA and more tba, including another date opening for Shawn Colvin and some full band shows. Then, as 2012 gets going, Rich and I will head back to the UK for a 10 day tour, after which we'll do a week of shows in Holland and Germany. Trying not to think about how cold and clammy it will be over there in January and focusing instead on the awesome accents, left-side drives, Cadbury chocolate, and bratwurst. Also I'm attempting to arrange a return to the west coast in the spring, since it's been around 4 years since my last tour out there. Should be more clear on that by year's end. All the dates and details for upcoming shows so far announced are on my website.

All the best for a good fall,
Rebecca

Hey friends,

I hope your summer is running smoothly. I'm in New York sitting next to my brand new air conditioner while it sizzles outside. Today it hit 96 degrees! I've been laying low for the past few weeks after a whirlwind few months on the road.

After the UK tour, in May we headed down south through Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia ending in sizzling Savannah with its blooming trees and gardens. The driving distance we drove from NYC to Knoxville just to get to our first gig was about the same length as the entire island of Great Britain. Man, it's a big country over here! To end spring on high note, Rich and I got to open for the amazing Shawn Colvin down in DC in early June. Not too shabby.

We are planning to return to the UK in late January 2012 and we will also be adding some Europe dates in the Netherlands and Germany!

"Viewfinder" has picked up tons of excellent press and continues to gain radio airplay. Obviously, I am very excited about all of this.

If you don't yet have a copy of the album, you can get it digitally through iTunes, eMusic, or Bandcamp or order your physical copy from Nine Mile Records or Amazon.

Plans for part two of 2011 include shows booked in NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA, WV, OH, NC, GA, many of those shows with my full band, with more to be announced, plus early 2012 will bring us over to the UK and Europe again. All confirmed dates are here. If there's somewhere you think I should be playing or someone you know who runs a venue, hosts house concerts, books a festival, likes good music, etc, send any and all info my way. I'd be happy to look into it.

Thanks for the support!
Rebecca

Back home from the UK. The tour was a great experience. We had wonderful, attentive audiences and visited lots of new cities. We played in England, Scotland and Wales, drove on the left, and saw tons of baby sheep. The crisps were tasty and varied in flavor, I tried Haggis and and we recorded a video of our first taste of a Scotch egg.

Americana UK wrote a glowing review of the new record and an excellent live review of our Edinburgh show appeared in the Scotsman. Time Out London called me a "witty Americana songstress." I assume they're talking about my banter, cause I'm no Randy Newman.

Some photos below. More on Facebook.

Phone Booths, London                                          Roadside sheep, Scotland

Mountains, Scottish Highlands                          Breakfast, Thirsk

Audience, Glasgow                                         Castle, St Andrews

Hope to be back over there again soon. Next up touring southward at the end of the month visiting NC, TN, and GA. Shows listed here.

Monday, April 18, 2011

Greetings from London! Rich and I kicked off our UK tour with a terrific show here last night at the Green Note. We look forward to 9 more shows, as we work our way west into Wales and north into Scotland!

The big news is that in honor of today being tax day in the US, my ode to the economy, "Hard Times," is NPR's Song of the Day! For those of you outside the US, NPR is National Public Radio and is pretty much the go-to place for intelligent news reporting and fine music. It's a big honor to be featured on their music site. They said the song "addresses the struggles of a generation attempting to get by over a propulsive beat and a wash of noirishly twangy guitars." Check out the full feature.

The other big news is that "Viewfinder" will finally be officially released tomorrow, April 19, and should appear on iTunes and all those other digital sites as well as in stores tomorrow.

I'm working on summer and fall tour dates. All shows so far announced are at right, with locations and details here. Please send venue ideas and suggestions should you have them.

xo,
Rebecca

P.S. Today on the tube, our way to a radio interview:

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Writing to you from my home base of Brooklyn, NY where the forecast is for rain every day till I leave for my UK tour! How fitting. A little preparation!

I'm excited to report that the new record is getting a lot of advanced press and radio attention. Official release date is April 19, but I wanted to let you know that I just put the record up on Bandcamp where you can download it right now! You can also have it delivered to your door via Nine Mile Records (they'll send out your copy the next day). By April 19 "Viewfinder" will pop up in record stores, on Amazon and other online retail locations, as well as become available digitally on iTunes and sites like that.

In the few weeks "Viewfinder" has been in the hands of radio DJs, it's hit #12 on the Roots/Country chart (Roots Music Report) and #13 on the FAR chart (Freeform American Roots), and this is just the beginning. A list of stations that are playing the record are here. Feel free to call in and request a tune!

Over the next few months, I'll be touring quite a bit in support of "Viewfinder." Rich and I will be in the UK for 10 shows this month, then down south for a week in NC, TN, GA, followed by some full band dates later on in NY, WV, OH, PA, MD. Other upcoming highlights include returning to the NJ Folk Festival to play the main stage and opening for Shawn Colvin at the Birchmere in DC!

Another very exciting development is that track #1 "Hard Times" is soon to be featured on NPR's Song of the Day!! I'm honored to be spotlighted on this brilliantly curated and popular blog. The feature is set to appear in the next couple weeks and I will let you know when I have an exact date.

The CD release show in NYC was a great success and I finally had some much need video of the band taken. Check out us playing track 10 from the new record "Shame:"

I'll be updating Facebook and Twitter with photos and stories from my tour dates, so look for me over there.

Thanks very much for supporting what I do! Hope to see you on the road.

xo,
Rebecca

Oh joy! The CDs arrived last week. To all the wonderful folks who donated, you should have received your copies by now. We raised $7,000 for the project! Thank you so much for your generosity! Hope you enjoy having and hearing 'viewfinder' long before others.

The offical release date for 'viewfinder' is April 19, 2011, but there will be opportunities to hear the music and buy the CD before that. You can preview some of the songs on the listen page right now. All of my shows in March are pre-relase shows so the CD is available exclusively at these live appearances and we will be releasing a free single on Monday, Febraury 14 (Valentine's Day) to all members of my email list and to anyone who joins.

Can't wait for you all to hear the record!

xo,
Rebecca

Well hello! Team Pronsky has been working steadily all season on the new record, now entitled "viewfinder."

Rich and I spent October recording harmony vocals as well as cameo appearances for accordion and pedal steel. In November, the amazing Scott Solter mixed the record and now it is in its final stages, currently being mastered by Nashville's Yes Master.

Official release date for the album is April 19, 2011, but donors to the project will have the record much earlier, at the same time the radio and press people get their advanced copies. If you still haven't donated, please donate now -- the deadline is December 31, just a few weeks away! All donors receive a signed copy of the CD 2 whole months before the release, sent directly you via the old fashioned US mail.

I've got a number of shows in January, February, and March in the northeast as well as a string of pre-release shows in late March where the CD will be available exclusively. So far slated are NYC, Philadelphia, Providence, Boston, Portsmouth, with more to come. In April, I'm headed back to the UK (both England & Scotland) and continental Europe as well for release shows there. In May, I will be down south, and this summer I'll be headed out west for my first west coast tour in 3 years. Dates so far announced here.

Need a holiday gift? Stocking stuffer? 2007's "Departures & Arrivals" and 2009's "The Best Game in Town" are both available via the Nine Mile Records store. Help them make room in their offices for my new release!

Thank you all for your amazing support in 2010. Can't wait to get you this new record and to get back to playing live again in the coming months.

xo,
Rebecca

It's been quite a summer and fall is now upon us. The kids in the neighborhood are all nervously scampering about, knowing school begins momentarily, and I just got back from Maine where the leaves were already changing. . I toured for most of July, including 10 days on the road with my band. Then I got home and went up to Maine to record a new album.

The band and I plus engineer Sam Kassirer laid down 11 songs in a beautiful 18th century farm house / recording studio right near the border of New Hampshire, but not near much else at all. It was so pretty and quiet there that our biggest obstacle was a cricket hiding under the piano that chirped so loudly he actually made it onto some of the takes. You can be assured that we worked hard and the songs are sounding great. Check out photos of our recording week.

I'm happy to say that the entire recording process was covered by donations from fans. It is an honor to have this support and I am so grateful to everyone who has donated so far.

Now it's time for phase 2 of the album-making process: the mixing and mastering. These two processes are like college and grad school and give recorded music the credibility and polish it needs to be properly received by the ears of the world. I'm really looking forward to working with some great folks on phase 2 and I hope you'll consider supporting the project if you haven't already. $30 gets you a copy of the record before its official release and helps me to cover costs now. $100 gets your name in the liner notes, a deluxe poster, any CD of mine you don't already have, and of course the new CD before the official release. There are all kinds of other thank you gifts and funding levels here on my fundraising page: http://rebeccapronsky.com/fundraising.html

I'll be laying pretty low this fall as far as touring goes, since I'll be working mostly on the record. I have a few shows in the northeast (so far announced in CT, PA, NY, ME) and then things will begin to pick up again early in 2011 with more tour dates, a return tour in Europe, and an eventual release of the album. I'll keep you posted on all of that, of course.
In the meantime, follow me on Facebook or Twitter for more frequent recording news and gig announcements.

Hope you have a great, colorful fall.

Best,
Rebecca

Hi folks,

Since the Europe tour I've had a bunch of fun local and regional gigs. I'm spending the rest of the spring playing here and there and rehearsing with the band to get us in shape for our big July tour before we record in August. I'm also doing a special CD Fundraiser show at Union Hall on July 12. Really hope you can make it.

And, strangely, I have discovered my song "Digging Graves," from my 2007 release Departures & Arrivals, appeared in a Polish television series called Usta Utsa earlier this month. Check episode 7's dramatic ending where my song appears:

Cheers,
Rebecca

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Well hello,

So it's 2010, a year that sounds like it belongs in a space age future world. Hopefully that world has some room for a semi-traditional twangy singer-songwriter gal.

I'm taking it up a notch this year and really getting myself out there. Here's what's in store so far:

* Release of the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange artist sampler: January
* Northeast shows: NY, NJ, CT, MA, and more coming soon
* South tour in February: lots of Tennessee action, some NC too.
* Europe tour: UK, Netherlands and Belgium in March!
* Brooklyn Residency at 68 Jay Street Bar in April/May
* Full band tour in July to OH, NC, TN, GA to tighten up our sound for...
* Recording a new record in August!!

Yahoooo. I'll update you more about that new record as a timeline is finalized. All confirmed tour dates are here.

In the meantime, become a fan on Facebook and follow me, will ya? (Well, if you like that sort of thing.) I update news as it comes in with gig announcements, recording info, photos from my tours, and you can post your thoughts too: facebook.com/rebeccapronsky

Also I have some brand new stickers and buttons which you can get at any of my shows this year. They feature this characture design (on right).

Thanks for supporting me thus far. Looking forward to sharing a new year of music with you.

xo,
Rebecca

Sunday, November 1, 2009

Hey there,

Happy November! I hope you turned your clocks back and dressed up real silly last night. I went as the Log Lady from Twin Peaks --->

REST OF '09:
I'm gearing up for a very full few months ahead. In November and December I'll be playing a lot in the Northeast (PA, NY, MA, NH, ME) and then ending the year with a short tour through Austin, Houston and New Orleans. It'll be my first time in Texas EVER.

COMING UP IN 2010:
I'm planning some exciting trips for early next year. In Februrary, I'll be heading to the Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis and touring there via Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia. In March, I'll be doing some shows in the UK to support Lucy Wainwright Roche's CD Release Tour. More details about all that soon. All confirmed tour dates here.

COMPILATION:
The local songwriting compilation CD I organized is done. Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange Volume 1 looks and sounds great. (For those of you who don't know, I've been hosting a local songwriters series monthly for a few years now and this compilation is the first in what we hope to be many volumes of good local music. More about the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange here.) BSX Volume 1 will be available free at all BSX shows and includes my song "Big Kid" plus selected tracks from 13 other local songwriters. If you don't live in NYC, I will be bringing the CDs with me to my tour dates so you can pick one up from me when I'm in your town. I'm really proud of all the great music on this disk and the community of artists in Brooklyn that are featured.

Thanks again for your support and enjoy what's left of 2009.

All the best,
Rebecca

Happy September!

The summer has been great and all, but it's definitely getting on time to cool down, and I know so, because it's almost my birthday...

My birthday is always falls around Labor Day weekend, which means it signals a last chance for summer fun. This year, I've decided to lower the pressure by touring southward, ending the month in the warmer states, thereby extending summer a little longer.

I begin September with individual gigs in Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia before embarking on a two week Midwest / South tour. Highlights include my first visit to Pittsburgh and first-ever shows ever in Ohio and Kentucky, an in-studio performance on North Carolina's great WNCW, plus opening two shows opening for alt-roots artist Carrie Rodriguez in Tennessee and Georgia.

Show times, ticket prices, more details, etc are here.

The rest of the fall includes more local and northeast shows in Northampton, Boston, NY, Philadelphia and many more TBA, plus I'll be working hard on a compilation CD for my music series the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange. We will be putting out a volume one compilation of our favorite local Brooklyn artists and releasing it before holiday time. More on that soon.

My EP was reprinted a few weeks ago and looks fancier than before. It is still available at all shows or by mail via Nine Mile Records and also digitally via iTunes and eMusic.

Looking forward to an action-packed fall and hope to see you out on the road! September dates are listed here.

xo,
Rebecca

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Why hello...

It's officially stopped raining daily in the northeast and we are finally doing this summer thing. Since I refuse to let it end early, I'll be touring to warmer climates in late September. I'll also be playing in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, plus visiting Ohio and Kentucky for the first time. And I'll be back down in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia again. In the meantime, I've some local shows and two others upstate in Ithaca and Rochester.

Rich and I joined Freedy Johnston for a few shows over the past few weeks and it was a lot of fun. We also had a great time doing our first co-bill at Club Passim in Boston, and I will be back there for the Campfire Festival over Labor Day weekend. My series the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange has been going very well lately. We have been presenting some great talent to large, attentive audiences.

In other news, I've completely sold out of copies of my EP and am having them reprinted, a bit snazzier this time, so be sure to pick one up at an upcoming show. You can also download the title track, "The Best Game in Town" for free by clicking here. The whole EP is also available for download on iTunes, eMusic and Rhapsody.

Hope you are feeling good. If you need some summer reading, may I recommend "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan? One of the most enlightening books I've ever read. If you need a summer movie, go see Food Inc. It's very powerful and eye-opening.

That's all folks. Hope to see you on the road.

xo,
Rebecca

After a grueling 8 hour drive, we made it to the North Carolina Outer Banks and will take the scenic route to Wilmington tomorrow. I'm really excited to play there especially after two very flattering articles appeared about me in the local press today:

"An Artist You Should Know About" (Star News)

"In Her Dreams: Rebecca Pronsky follows her musical path" (Encore Weekly)

Couldn't ask for a better welcome to a town I've never been too!

Hello friends,
I'm so excited to report that my new EP is done and you can get one if you come see me play. The EP 'The Best Game in Town' will come with me only to shows, at least for a while. By the spring it will be available digitally and through my label. For now, come see me play and have something to listen to on the way home!

Hello friends far and wide,

It's a new year; we're on the eve of a new president, and I, myself, cannot wait to watch the big speech tomorrow. Before I get caught up in the insanity, I thought I'd let you know what I've been up to lately and where you can come see me play in the next couple months.

WHAT'S HAPPENING:

* My album 'Departures & Arrivals' made the Critic's Pick Top Ten Albums of 2008 in the Philadelphia City Paper! Pretty exciting!

* At the end of this week I will head into the studio to record a crop of new tunes which I will release as an EP soon after. I'm really looking forward to finally recording with the very talented band members I've been playing with for over a year now.

* In February, I'm doing two shows in the Philadelphia area, opening for Catie Curtis and Loudon Wainwright III plus a short New England tour where I'm hitting Northampton, Boston, and Portsmouth. March and April include shows in Berkshire country and upstate NY plus a tour down south (currently in the planning stages).

UPCOMING SHOWS:

Saturday, 2.07 Phoenixville, PA - Steel City Coffee House opening for Catie Curtis!
Sunday, 2.08 Easthampton, MA - Eastworks w/ Dennis Crommert and Lucy Wainwright Roche (This is a house concert; please email cornsnakebooking@gmail.com if you'd like to attend)
Monday, 2.09 Portsmouth, NH - Red Door w/ Lucy Wainwright Roche
Tuesday, 2.10 Cambridge, MA - Toad 8PM w/ Jenee Halstead
Thursday, 2.12 Brooklyn, NY - Freddy's Backroom w/ Greg Hoy Annihilation
Thursday, 2.19 Sellersville, PA - Sellersville Theatre opening for Loudon Wainwright III!

(Show times, ticket info, and and confirmed March and April shows are all here.)

This winter I've been determined not to get the seasonal blues. I even bought one of those lamps that simulates natural sun. It is so bright, it might be giving me a tan. And, I got out of the city this weekend and had a chance to go showshoeing and commune with real, white snow, free of city grime. Has anyone gone showshoeing before? It is pretty fabulous.

See you soon and happy inauguration!

~ Rebecca

Hey Friends,

The short days are finally upon us. I've seen quite a few movies and knitted lots of mittens and scarves as of late. I'm all set to record the new EP in January and will have it out soon after.

Some exciting news to report: My music series the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange, just got a big sponsorship from BMI and we are gonna be churning out some excellent shows in 2009 with the best songwriters in NYC and beyond. In addition, shows will now be free to attend!

In the meantime I wanted to let you know about a few gigs I'll be playing this month:

Sunday, December 7- BEACON, NY @ Songwriters Sundays
* solo in-the-round w/ Ethan Lipton + Bob Huff, hosted by Stephen Clair

Sunday, December 14 -PHILADELPHIA, PA @ Tin Angel
* solo in-the-round w/ Lucy Wainwright Roche + Nicole Reynolds

Monday, December 15 - BROOKLYN, NY @ Union Hall
* full band show w/ Andy Friedman & the Other Failures + Devon Sproule

At this time I can't help but remind you that indie music CDs make great holiday gifts, so order a copy of "Departures & Arrivals" for a friend on Amazon, J&R, Barnes & Noble or at these fine retail locations!

For times and tickets go here.

Enjoy all your holidays and the rest of '08!

All the best,

Hey friends,

Today is the first day of fall -- Happy autumn!

The summer ended very nicely with excellent shows this past month. I opened for a bunch of really talented folks and played some new spots.

Some non-musical tour highlights of the past month:

* Visiting the Charlottesville Obama office where I got to have my picture taken with a lifesize cardboard Obama (he is SO tall).

* Finding a gatorade bottle full of gorgeous handpicked wild roses, left for me by an anonymous fan after a show.

* Stopping in Providence, RI where I went to college and eating a grilled muffin at my favorite diner in the world.

NEW EP IN THE WORKS:
If you've been to see me play lately you know that I've been playing lots of new songs. Due to popular demand we're going into the studio in January to record an EP of the new tunes, which will be available at shows this spring! Can't wait to get that out to you.

In the meantime, I've got some fun gigs lined up this month:

Thursday, October 9
@ Midtown Coffeehouse
DANBURY, CT
This is open to the public, so please come!

Saturday, October 11
@ Attucks Theatre
NORFOLK, VA
opening for The Bowerbirds!!

Tuesday, October 21
@ Union Hall
BROOKLYN, NY
Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange w/ the Jack Grace Band and Libby Johnson.

Show times and more info here.

Later this fall: Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, and more. Hope to see you soon.

Hello people,

September looks like it's gone from a lazy month to a crazy month as I've added some late minute shows around the northeast. I'll be in VA, DC, MD, PA and MA and sharing stages with some great artists including Erin McKeown, Catie Curtis, and Kris Delmhorst among others. Details later, but first here's some highlights from August:

* My first show in Ithaca was a swell one and I also made the papers. The Ithaca Times recommended our show touting my "brutal cutting lyricism and jazz-trained voice." Not bad. Bonus: I got to check out the great farmers market up there and eat some really fabulous homemade muffins.

* My monthly music series, the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange, was featured in the Brooklyn Courier. Read the article here.

* I sang at my friends' wedding and afterward I was bombarded by hilarious commentary from older guests like "You got talent, lady! Yer goin' straight to Broadway!"

And so it's onward to Broadway... er the highway. Here's where I'll be this month:

Monday, September 1
Gravity Lounge
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA
*opening for Erin McKeown!

Tuesday, September 2
IOTA Club & Cafe
ARLINGTON, VA
*w/ awesome DC band The Charm Offensive

Friday, September 5
Narrows Center for the Arts
FALL RIVER, MA
*opening for Catie Curtis!

Saturday, September 6
Center for the Arts in Natick

NATICK, MA
*opening for Kris Delmhorst!

Thursday, September 18
Coffee East
EASTON, MD
*opening for Caroline Herring

Friday, September 19
Steel City Coffee House
PHOENIXVILLE, PA
*w/ John Conahan

Hope to see you. And remember, if you can't make it, you can always send your friends and find out later if you share the same taste in music. ;)

Best,
Rebecca

Greetings from Brooklyn where the ACs are working overtime and it hit a sweet 99 degrees on Monday.

It looks like my summer dates are for the most part finalized and there's even more shows than I had expected.

I just added two last minute dates this month in Charlottesville and Washington, DC. I'm off to the west coast in July where I will be doing a bunch of shows in and around San Francisco and, in August I'll be heading upstate as well as starting back up my old music series the "Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange" this time at Union Hall. More on all that soon.

Here's where I'll be in the next few weeks:

Thurs June 12 - PHILADELPHIA, PA - Tin Angel - 8:30PM (w/ Jenny Scheinman)
It's been a while since I played at the Tin and I'm very glad to be back. Opening the night for violinist and songwriter Jenny Scheinman. Jenny's played violin behind pretty much every big songwriter of our time, but now ventures out on her own behind a new record. I'm playing duo with Rich on guitar. $12 http://www.tinangel.com

Sat June 14 - EASTON, MD - Coffee East - 8PM (w/ Lucy Wainwright Roche)
My last show at Coffee East was a ball and I'm so glad I'll be back once more, this time with my old friend Lucy Wainwright Roche, who happens to have an excellent new record out called "8 More." We're both playing solo. $12 http://www.coffeeeastmusic.com

Wed June 18 - CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Gravity Lounge - 7:30Pm (w/ Lucy Wainwright Roche)
My first time at this great venue. I'll be joining Lucy for another night. This show just came through and we may or may not be playing in-the-round with a local artist so check for updates. I've never been to C-ville so send any of your friends down there to greet me. $TBA http://www.gravity-lounge.com/

Fri June 20 - WASHINGTON, DC - IOTA Club & Cafe (in Arlington) - 9:30PM (w/ Dean Fields)
Sharing the night with Richmond, Virginia based songwriter Dean Fields. This club is super great and showcases excellent music 7 nights a week. Can't wait to get back to DC. Duo show with Rich on guitar. $12 http://iotaclubandcafe.com/

Wed July 2 - BROOKLYN, NY - Old First Church - 9PM - Summer Music Festival
Free music at this great staple of the Park Slope community every Wednesday night this summer. Right on the corner of Carroll St and 7th Ave. Free, http://www.oldfirstbrooklyn.org/

See you in the sun,
Rebecca

Sunday, June 1, 2008

It is officially super warm, perfect-for-touring weather! I had a great time up in Boston at the Campfire Festival and am really enjoying the album I snagged from fellow performer Jenee Halstead.

Back at home last week I did another fun show at Union Hall. Here's us:

Just three more shows out east before I head to San Francisco.

I still have a couple open dates in the Bay Area so if you have any ideas, let me know.

See you out there!
Rebecca

Played two fun shows this past week in NYC and Philly. Here's a video of the full band playing a new tune at Union Hall:

See you in Maryland next weekend.

Hello Friends,

I 'm very happy to announce a string of excellent shows coming up around the northeast. I'm really looking forward to sharing the stage with some amazing talents. Hope to see you:

Mon, April 28 - BROOKLYN, NY - Union Hall - 8:30PM (w/ Haunt and The Everybodyfields)
So glad to be back -- with my full band -- at Brooklyn's coolest venue in what is sure to be a terrific show. Haunt (from Northampton) opens, followed by me and my band, and then the The Everybodyfields from Johnson City, Tennessee, a constantly-touring alt-country group. Don't miss it., $8

Tues, April 29 - PHILADELPHIA, PA - World Cafe Live - 8PM (w/ Bronwen Exter and Carsie Blanton)
Misty voiced Bronwen, sassy Carsie and I take over the upstairs of World Cafe Live and play in the round, campfire style. It'll probably be the most eclectic round I've ever done and also, I'm guessing, one of the best. $6.

Fri, May 9 - BALTIMORE, MD - Baltimore Chop Shop: Books, Music & Coffee - 8PM
My first gig ever in Baltimore (not sure why this took so long). This is a FREE SHOW, so come on down and send your friends too. 625 Washington Blvd. between MLK and Camden Yards.

Sat, May 10 - EASTON, MD - Coffee East - 8PM (opening for Peter Case!)
Very excited to open for the legendary Peter Case. Woohoo. $15.

Looking ahead:

End of May, early June: I'll be up in New England, and back down in the DC area.
July: Bay Area Tour!!

Thanks for stickin' with me.

xo,
Rebecca

Monday, February 25, 2008

We're back from a week down south. Here's photos of my two favorite shows of the tour:

WDVX 89.9 - Knoxville, TN -- Enjoyed being back again on this great station. We shared the hour broadcast with the amazing cowboy band Sons of the San Joaquin. Their songs made me dream of the old west and their harmonies made me grin like a little girl. (Photo by Peter Scheffler)

Flicker Theatre & Bar - Athens, GA -- A great night. We opened for the totally awesome local band The Ones, whose tropicalia/60's pop knocked my socks off. These guys and gals are the real deal. (Photo by Yong-Kai Xu)

Looking forward to playing in DC this weekend with Eilen Jewell and then taking a little time off of playing to regroup and begin booking my summer shows.

Also, while we were away, my new buttons came in the mail:

They are free at shows. Now that the record has been out for a few months, we'll be touring in support of the new pin until further notice... ;)

Rebecca

Hi Friends,

Hope you're enjoying the new year so far. Since my last news installment the record has continued to make headway. It is now available at many retail stores on the east and west coasts and I just got word it was picked up by a distributor in the Netherlands too!

Hilarious but true: You can get my songs as ringtones here or on iTunes! Everytime the phone rings hear your favorite Rebecca Pronsky tunes.

I've been working on some new songs and I've got a ton of great gigs lined up this winter - spending January in the northeast: reuniting with my full band in NYC for our first gig together since September, and doing a solo tour to Boston, Northampton, Philadelphia and the Hudson Valley at the end of the month. Dates are here.

Up next: February: Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.

See ya 'round,
Rebecca

Thursday, December 6, 2007

Hello Friends,

The holidays are upon us and I am making it my business to get out there in the cold and play a bunch of shows between now and Christmas.

This weekend I'll be visiting the snowy Hudson Valley, playing in Saugerties and Woodstock. Next weekend I'm doing shows at two cozy venues: The Space in CT where I'll be opening for the great Tracy Grammer and Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn.

Did I mention that CDs are awesome holiday gifts?! Well they are, especially when you give people CDs of independent artists, whom they might not hear about otherwise. Be that coolest of relatives or friends this season.

You can buy 'Departures & Arrivals' from lots of online and retail shops. Go here for a full list.

If you order direct from Nine Mile Records, you'll get a special holiday discount. All their titles are only $9.99, including mine, so stock up.

Thanks so much for all your support this year. I played nearly 70 shows in 17 states. Whew! What an adventure.

I'll be kicking off the new year with a full band show in NYC, a bunch of shows around the northeast in January (Boston, Northampton, Philadelphia, Upstate) and a south tour through North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia in February.

Keep those sweaters on,
Rebecca

Hello!

Got back yesterday from doing a couple shows in New England with my friend Lucy Wainwright Roche. Here's a nice shot of us singing together on Sunday at Mocha Maya's in Shelburne Falls, MA:

We're heading back out on the road together in January for some more shows and promise some new harmonies for then.

In other news, Departures & Arrivals is finally available on iTunes. Go download it!

See you soon,

Hey all,

I had a great time opening for the lovely Garrison Starr at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia last weekend. Here's a photo of the show:

Also, FYI, this is the last photograph of me with this guitar because today I got a new one! It's hard to part with something so much a part of my history ( I've had that Taylor 612CE since I was 18). And yet it wasn't really right for me anymore. It was time to get something more in line with the sound I'm going for these days.

I'm very exciting to start playing out with my newly acquired Guild F50R which I got from Mazzotti Music:

It's weird to grow up.

Wow.
The Jewish Exponent in Philadelphia did a feature on me and said some really nice things about the new record, including "the singer displays the same remarkable mix of grace and grit as Neko Case." Read the article here.

Hello Friends,

Today is the national release date of my new record "Departures & Arrivals." Yay! Yay, indeed.

Some of you already have it thanks to your pre-orders or purchases at live shows over the last couple weeks. If you don't have the CD, it is now available online via Nine Mile Records, CD Universe, J&R, and Barnes & Noble. You can order it directly from those retailers here.

New Yorkers, you can buy the CD at my favorite NYC indie record store Etherea, in the East Village: 66 Avenue A btw 4th and 5th St. I'm also on the listening station there too.

My distributor will be getting the CD into more record stores in the next couple months and on digital downloads as well.

I'll keep you posted...

xo,
Rebecca

Hey all,

Last night was my big hometown CD Release show at Union Hall. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported. It was a great show and we packed the place!! It was so nice to play with a band again and share another evening with my good friend Lucy Wainwright Roche. I'm glad I got to kick off my fall release schedule at home in Brooklyn. Here's some photos of the night:

About to perform "Big City Lights" with Lucy on harmonies.

Singing with Lucy on her song "A Bridge"

I will be playing lots of shows in October and November all over the northeast to celebrate the release. I'm excited to be returning to some of my favorite spots like Toad in Boston, the Tin Angel in Philly, The Space in Hamden and the Red Door in Portsmouth. Some new things are set up too -- my first time at the Dewey Beach Americana Festival, and also playing the highly regarded NJ Songwriters in the Round at Maxwells in Hoboken and a spot at the Rosendale Cafe in the Hudson Valley.

If you can't make it to a show, you can buy the CD directly from Nine Mile Records here:

Do it. You won't regret it.

Thanks for all your support with this release.

Southern California is a land like no other. As a New Yorker, I feel almost completely out of my element. Palm trees and desert, and everything else is so new! The ocean is on the wrong side! Mexican food is everywhere and is actually good.

We were received well down here. Here are photos of our shows in LA and San Diego:

Lestat's - San Diego

Room 5 - LA

I can't wait to get home. It's been a long tour and I'm missing my hometown. I gotta get prepared with the band for the Union Hall CD Release show on September 18.

See you soon,
Rebecca

Friday, August 17, 2007

Greetings from the SF Bay area and the middle of the tour!

We've had a very varied group of shows in all sorts of venues: coffeeshop, jazz club, record store and even one in a blues bar. When you're planning a tour it's very complicated to work out something perfect in every city on all the dates you want. Some shows are easier to secure than others; some come through at the last minute. Our show at Luna Jazz in Eugene, OR was terrific. We played with Rachel Sage. In Portland, we did a fun in-store performance at Millennium Music, a great record shop (see photos). Then, yet again the Bay Area came through delivering two excellent shows for us at Mama Buzz Cafe in Oakland and back at the Hotel Utah in SF.

I am enjoying seeing San Francisco again, since I haven't been back since last summer and it's definitely the most exciting city we've played in yet, although I really dug Seattle. We head to southern California today for our final dates in SLO, LA and San Diego.

It feels great to have the new record with me and I hope to sell out of all the copies I brought with me so I don't have to lug them back on the plane and into my overcrowded NYC apartment. More tour reports soon.

Rebecca

Sunday, August 5, 2007

Friends! The CDs are here!

... and just in time cause I'm leaving tomorrow for my west coast tour. CDs are not officially released till October but you can get one at shows until then.

The record has already gotten some advanced press. Oakland's East Bay News did a feature on me for my upcoming show there on August 14 and said some very nice things about the record.

NYCers, save the date:
Tues, Sept 18 at Union Hall -
CD Release show!
It's gonna be a good one and your only chance to get the record early!

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Rebecca

Hello out there,

Like most of us, I've had a "top ten" albums list for a long time, but recently I've been hearing such great music from indie artists who I've shared bills with or just heard through the grapevine that I find myself listening almost solely to my contemporaries. Many of the artists I used to swear by haven't got me stirred up with new records. So I wanted to share what music has really got me going lately. Here's my indie top-ten list in no particular order:

1. Merrie Amsterburg - Little Steps
2. Paul Schneider - Escape Velocity
3. Valorie Miller - Folk Star
4. Hoy - Forever Endeavour
5. Friendly Bears - On Oceans, Light, and Sleep
6. Innocence Mission - Glow
7. Luke Brindley - S/T
8. Deb Talan - A Bird Flies Out
9. Jennifer Greer - The Apiary
10. Lucy Wainwright Roche - 8 Songs

If you like good stuff, I suggest giving these songwriters a good listen.

Happy hot July,
Rebecca

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

I'm so excited to announce that my new record is going to be released by Nine Mile Records, a great indie label in Easthampton, MA. The new record is called "Departures & Arrivals" and has a national release date of October 9.

This record has been a long time coming. We began recording over the winter and I cannot wait to get it out there! I have so many people to thank for helping make it happen. More updates when I have them.

I'm also looking forward to touring out west again next month -- it's been a year since I was there. Tour dates are here.

I'm playing my last show in NYC for a few months next Tuesday at Union Hall. Come check it out. They also have indoor bocci and that's pretty damn cool.

Rebecca

Saturday, June 30, 2007

Finally back from touring the south. What a whirlwind week. We had a whole mix of shows: good, bad, weird and amazing. The highlights were definitely Asheville, NC, where we spent a couple days with my friend and exceptional songwriter Valorie Miller, and Knoxville, TN, where we appeared on WDVX's "Blue Plate Special" noontime show for both a radio audience and a live studio one as well. Here are some photos.

In Asheville at the Root Bar, Rich sits in on Valorie Miller's set, with Mike Holstein on bass.

"Blue Plate Special" live show on WDVX in Knoxville, TN

Overall, the tour was an education. We played almost all new cities, got a good sense of the music scene down south, and made some new friends. We will be visiting many of these cities again when the record is released

For now I'm relaxing and then planning to solidify everything for August's west coast tour.
Rebecca

Sunday, May 27, 2007

Hello! Happy memorial day weekend -- Hope you're all having fun out there.

I am very excited about the way the record is coming along and I've decided to take a little more time with it so that it comes out just the way I want it. In the meantime, I'm putting together a short 4-song EP to sell at upcoming shows. There'll be a bonus track on there too that won't be released on the CD, so it'll be worth your while to pick it up.

This month I'm playing in NYC, Boston and DC and I will also be doing an awesome week-long tour of the south, heading to Nashville for the first time and also visiting Athens, GA; Knoxville, TN; Asheville, NC; Chapel Hill, NC; and Charlotte, NC. ! I'm really excited about this.

Hope to see you on a warm night this month.

xo,
Rebecca

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Hi Friends,

This will be a slow month of gigging for me as I'm doing a lot of work on my record. It is coming along nicely and I should have some tunes up for you to preview in a couple weeks. In the meantime, I'm planning some major touring for the summer to the south and west coast. Check out what's booked so far.

For now, I'll be playing one big show this month in Brooklyn. It's going to be fabulous. I'm very excited because I put the bill together myself and will be joined by some terrific songwriting talent:

Saturday, April 28, 8PM at the Greenwood Cemetery Chapel
Best of the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange
w/ Ana Egge, Crescent & Frost, Rebecca Pronsky, Valorie Miller
Details here.

"Saved in Time" - Concerts at Greenwood - is presented in partnership with Greenwood Cemetery, the Brooklyn Lyceum, and the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange.

Hope you can make it. If not, see you next month!

Best,
Rebecca

Hello friends!

Just did a couple tour dates in New England. I started at The Space in Hamden, CT and played a really fun night there. Great people! Then we played Toad in Cambridge, a college gig and an awesome loft party in Somerville. Unlike most New Yorkers, I love Boston and always enjoy doing music there. I always find the audiences there to be attentive and appreciative listeners.

I won't be playing much in April or May because I am finishing up the CD and getting ready for the release. Then in early June I will be playing CD release shows in NYC, Boston, and Philly and doing a week long tour of the south, playing in Chapel Hill, Asheville, Nashville, Knoxville, Charlotte, and Athens in late June. There's also a west coast tour in the works for August. Woohoo. See what's booked so far here.

Can't wait to get this record to you.

xo,
Rebecca

Sunday, February 26, 2007

Greetings.

Our south tour was so much fun. We had beautiful weather and great shows. Eddie's Attic was the real treat of the tour. Everyone there was wonderful and I played for one of my favorite audiences thus far. Here area some photos of us down south:

Live on the air on WUGA - Athens, GA

Neutral Ground - New Orleans, LA

We're back home now and it's snowing. We'll be working on the record again and keep you updated on it.

Talk soon,
Rebecca
