So
2011, yeah, not too shabby. I released a studio
album and a live album
and played 51 shows. I really want to thank everyone who came to a live
performance, bought a CD, spun me on the radio, set up a gig, ran sound
for us, made us breakfast, etc. An extra special thanks goes to those
generous folks who donated to make 'Viewfinder' possible. The record
has been heard far and wide and has led to so many opportunities for
me. Couldn't have done it without you!
Coming up in the new year:
-
UK
TOUR in January: Yep, we're doing a two week tour in the UK
in the dead of winter! I've heard it's crazy cold there, like damp,
in your bones cold. In preparation, Rich bought me the Coz-e
Electric Heated Blanket with Sleeves (as seen on TV!) Hope that
does the trick. We will be playing all over England and Wales and ending
the tour in Scotland at Celtic
Connections, an amazing music festival that takes over Glasgow in
the winter time. (Due to some travel and time constraints, we are postponing
our Holland and Germany shows till a later date.)
- NORTHWEST TOUR in March: It's been 4 years since
we last saw the Pacific and I'm really excited to go back. We'll be
supporting the Bay Area-based group Blame
Sally on their northwest tour! Washington, Oregon, California, I
hope you haven't forgotten about me! A few of the dates have been confirmed
already and more will be added soon.
- REGIONAL SHOWS: We'll be playing locally in Brooklyn,
the Hudson Valley, Long Island, Philadelphia, and more northeast cities
TBA.
- NEW SONGS/NEW ALBUM: I hope to begin work on the
next record by fall. I've got a bunch of new tunes and I can't wait
to play 'em out in the new year. Here's a really nice sounding video
of us playing one them:
I'll have free limited edition Rebecca Pronsky stickers
and buttons at all my shows.
Don't forget CDs make great holiday gifts! Order direct from Nine
Mile Records. They'll throw in RP stickers with your order too.
Thanks for keeping up with me and supporting my music! As always, find
me on Twitter and
Facebook for show
announcements, words from the road, and general musings.
All the best for a good rest of 2011,
Rebecca
P.S. Need a laugh? My favorite thing on the internet is this.

Today I am digitally releasing a free live album, which
features selections from a recent performance at Atlanta's great listening
room Eddie's Attic. The wonderful
soundman there, Shalom Aberle, recorded and mixed the show on the fly
and it sounded real sweet, so we decided to put it out there for free
download.
Live albums are cool cause there's no re-dos and all the silly banter
is included. If you haven't seen me play in a while, it'll make up for
my absence in touring your way. There's also a previously unrecorded
tune on there!
Hope you enjoy it! Go get your free copy of "Live
at Eddie's Attic."
Many early 2012 tour dates to be announced in the next couple months.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks!

Well
hello there,
What a great / freaky summer it's been. In New York City, we had an
earthquake and a hurricane in the space of one week. Cause
that's TOTALLY normal (ahem)! When the earthquake happened, I felt my
apartment sway and rock. Soon after, I checked Facebook and Twitter
to discover, quite unexpectedly, that my friends in Pittsburgh, DC,
western MA and North Carolina had all just had the same experience.
It was the first time in my life that I have experienced the same thing
at the same time as people hundreds of miles away. It was like a briefly
existing hive mind or that scene in Close Encounters
where all those strangers dream about that same mountain where the alien
ship is going to land.
This summer has been exciting in non-natural-disaster ways too:
* I bought a beautiful new instrument and have already written a couple
tunes on it. It's a 1936 tenor guitar, one of the early
electric instruments and it sounds fan-freakin-tastic. I will bring
it to all the upcoming shows that I can.
* The band and I ventured out to Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and West
Virginia and did some fun shows in the super hot late July weather.
The drives were pretty epic, around 7 hours per day, so we developed
a deep appreciation for satellite radio, especially the "90s on
9" and "80s on 8" stations. Check out a quick silly video
of a van sing along here.
* Rich and I worked at a rock n roll camp for kids which is always absurd
and hilarious. Some of the names of the bands the kids formed were:
Filthy Rich, Deep Fried Platypus,Time Machine, Public Indecency, Undead
Battery, and Fire Breathing Shrimp. Not too shabby!
* We've been working on new songs involving more ethereal
sounds and new ideas for instrumentation and have a couple choice covers
in the works that will surprise and, hopefully delight. I'll play as
much new stuff as I have ready at all shows this fall.
My plans for the rest of 2011 include shows in NY, NJ, PA, NC, GA, MA
and more tba, including another date opening for Shawn Colvin and some
full band shows. Then, as 2012 gets going, Rich and I will head back
to the UK for a 10 day tour, after which we'll do a week
of shows in Holland and Germany. Trying not to think about
how cold and clammy it will be over there in January and focusing instead
on the awesome accents, left-side drives, Cadbury chocolate, and bratwurst.
Also I'm attempting to arrange a return to the west coast in the spring,
since it's been around 4 years since my last tour out there. Should
be more clear on that by year's end. All the dates and details for upcoming
shows so far announced are on my website.
All the best for a good fall,
Rebecca

Hey
friends,
I hope your summer is running smoothly. I'm in New York sitting next
to my brand new air conditioner while it sizzles outside. Today it hit
96 degrees! I've been laying low for the past few weeks after a whirlwind
few months on the road.
After the UK tour, in May we headed down south through Tennessee, North
Carolina and Georgia ending in sizzling Savannah with its blooming trees
and gardens. The driving distance we drove from NYC to Knoxville just
to get to our first gig was about the same length as the entire island
of Great Britain. Man, it's a big country over here! To end spring on
high note, Rich and I got to open for the amazing Shawn Colvin
down in DC in early June. Not too shabby.
We are planning to return to the UK in late January 2012
and we will also be adding some Europe dates in the Netherlands
and Germany!
"Viewfinder" has picked up tons of excellent
press and continues to gain radio airplay.
Obviously, I am very excited about all of this.
If you don't yet have a copy of the album, you can get it digitally
through iTunes,
eMusic, or Bandcamp
or order your physical copy from Nine
Mile Records or Amazon.
Plans for part two of 2011 include shows booked in NY, NJ, PA, MD, VA,
WV, OH, NC, GA, many of those shows with my full band, with more to
be announced, plus early 2012 will bring us over to the UK and Europe
again. All confirmed dates are here. If there's
somewhere you think I should be playing or someone you know who runs
a venue, hosts house concerts, books a festival, likes good music, etc,
send any and all info my way. I'd be happy to look into it.
Thanks for the support!

Back home from the UK. The tour was a great experience.
We had wonderful, attentive audiences and visited lots of new cities.
We played in England, Scotland and Wales, drove on the left, and saw
tons of baby sheep. The crisps were tasty and varied in flavor, I tried
Haggis and and we recorded a video
of our first taste of a Scotch egg.
Americana UK wrote a glowing
review of the new record and an excellent live
review of our Edinburgh show appeared in the Scotsman. Time Out
London called me a "witty Americana songstress." I assume
they're talking about my banter, cause I'm no Randy Newman.
Some photos below. More on Facebook.
Phone Booths, London Roadside
sheep, Scotland
Mountains, Scottish Highlands Breakfast,
Thirsk
Audience, Glasgow Castle,
St Andrews
Hope to be back over there again soon. Next up touring southward at
the end of the month visiting NC, TN, and GA. Shows listed here.

Greetings
from London! Rich and I kicked off our UK tour with a terrific show
here last night at the Green Note. We look forward to 9 more shows,
as we work our way west into Wales and north into Scotland!
The
big news is that in honor of today being tax day in the US, my ode to
the economy, "Hard Times," is NPR's Song of the Day!
For those of you outside the US, NPR is National Public Radio and is
pretty much the go-to place for intelligent news reporting and fine
music. It's a big honor to be featured on their music site. They said
the song "addresses the struggles of a generation attempting
to get by over a propulsive beat and a wash of noirishly twangy guitars."
Check out the full
feature.
The other big news is that "Viewfinder" will finally
be officially released tomorrow, April 19, and should appear on iTunes
and all those other digital sites as well as in stores tomorrow.
I'm working on summer and fall tour dates. All shows so far announced
are at right, with locations and details here. Please send venue ideas
and suggestions should you have them.
xo,
Rebecca
P.S. Today on the tube, our way to a radio interview:
Wednesday, April 6, 2011
Writing
to you from my home base of Brooklyn, NY where the forecast is for rain
every day till I leave for my UK tour! How fitting. A little preparation!
I'm excited to report that the new record is getting a lot of advanced
press and radio attention. Official release date is April 19, but I
wanted to let you know that I just put the record up on Bandcamp
where you can download
it right now! You can also have it delivered to your door
via Nine
Mile Records (they'll send out your copy the next day). By April
19 "Viewfinder" will pop up in record stores, on Amazon and
other online retail locations, as well as become available digitally
on iTunes and sites like that.
In the few weeks "Viewfinder" has been in the hands of radio
DJs, it's hit #12 on the Roots/Country chart (Roots
Music Report) and #13 on the FAR chart (Freeform American
Roots), and this is just the beginning. A list of stations that are
playing the record are here. Feel free to call
in and request a tune!
Over the next few months, I'll be touring
quite a bit in support of "Viewfinder." Rich and
I will be in the UK for 10 shows this month, then down south for a week
in NC, TN, GA, followed by some full band dates later on in NY, WV,
OH, PA, MD. Other upcoming highlights include returning to the NJ Folk
Festival to play the main stage and opening for Shawn Colvin
at the Birchmere in DC!
Another very exciting development is that track #1 "Hard
Times" is soon to be featured on NPR's Song of the Day!!
I'm honored to be spotlighted on this brilliantly curated and popular
blog. The feature is set to appear in the next couple weeks and I will
let you know when I have an exact date.
The CD release show in NYC was a great success and I finally had some
much need video of the band taken. Check out us playing track 10 from
the new record "Shame:"
I'll be updating Facebook
and Twitter with
photos and stories from my tour dates, so look for me over there.
Thanks very much for supporting what I do! Hope to see you on the road.

Rebecca

Oh joy! The CDs arrived last week. To all the wonderful folks who donated,
you should have received your copies by now. We raised $7,000
for the project! Thank you so much for your generosity! Hope
you enjoy having and hearing 'viewfinder' long before others.
The offical release date for 'viewfinder' is April 19, 2011, but there
will be opportunities to hear the music and buy the CD before that.
You can preview some of the songs on the listen
page right now. All of my shows in March are pre-relase
shows so the CD is available exclusively at these live appearances
and we will be releasing a free single on Monday, Febraury 14
(Valentine's Day) to all members of my email list and to anyone
who joins.
Can't wait for you all to hear the record!

Rebecca

Well
hello! Team Pronsky has been working steadily all season on the new
record, now entitled "viewfinder."
Rich and I spent October recording harmony vocals as well as cameo appearances
for accordion and pedal steel. In November, the amazing Scott
Solter mixed the record and now it is in its final stages, currently
being mastered by Nashville's Yes
Master.
Official release date for the album is April 19, 2011, but donors to
the project will have the record much earlier, at the same time the
radio and press people get their advanced copies. If you still haven't
donated, please donate
now -- the deadline is December 31, just a few weeks away! All donors
receive a signed copy of the CD 2 whole months before the release, sent
directly you via the old fashioned US mail.
I've got a number of shows in January, February, and March in the northeast
as well as a string of pre-release shows in late March where the CD
will be available exclusively. So far slated are NYC, Philadelphia,
Providence, Boston, Portsmouth, with more to come. In April, I'm headed
back to the UK (both England & Scotland) and continental Europe
as well for release shows there. In May, I will be down south, and this
summer I'll be headed out west for my first west coast tour in 3 years.
Dates so far announced here.
Need a holiday gift? Stocking stuffer? 2007's "Departures
& Arrivals" and 2009's "The
Best Game in Town" are both available via the Nine Mile Records
store. Help them make room in their offices for my new release!
Thank you all for your amazing support in 2010. Can't wait to get you
this new record and to get back to playing live again in the coming
months.

Rebecca

It's
been quite a summer and fall is now upon us. The kids in the neighborhood
are all nervously scampering about, knowing school begins momentarily,
and I just got back from Maine where the leaves were already changing.
. I toured for most of July, including 10 days on the road with my band.
Then I got home and went up to Maine to record a new album.
The band and I plus engineer Sam
Kassirer laid down 11 songs in a beautiful 18th century farm house
/ recording studio right near the border of New Hampshire, but not near
much else at all. It was so pretty and quiet there that our biggest
obstacle was a cricket hiding under the piano that chirped so loudly
he actually made it onto some of the takes. You can be assured that
we worked hard and the songs are sounding great. Check out photos
of our recording week.
I'm happy to say that the entire recording process was covered by donations
from fans. It is an honor to have this support and I am so grateful
to everyone who has donated so far.
Now it's time for phase 2 of the album-making process: the mixing and
mastering. These two processes are like college and grad school and
give recorded music the credibility and polish it needs to be properly
received by the ears of the world. I'm really looking forward to working
with some great folks on phase 2 and I hope you'll consider supporting
the project if you haven't already. $30 gets you a copy of the record
before its official release and helps me to cover costs now. $100 gets
your name in the liner notes, a deluxe poster, any CD of mine you don't
already have, and of course the new CD before the official release.
There are all kinds of other thank you gifts and funding levels here
on my fundraising page: http://rebeccapronsky.com/fundraising.html
I'll be laying pretty low this fall as far as touring goes, since I'll
be working mostly on the record. I have a few shows in the northeast
(so far announced in CT, PA, NY, ME) and then things will begin to pick
up again early in 2011 with more tour dates, a return tour in Europe,
and an eventual release of the album. I'll keep you posted on all of
that, of course.
In the meantime, follow me on Facebook
or Twitter for more
frequent recording news and gig announcements.
Hope you have a great, colorful fall.
Best,
Rebecca

Hi folks,
Since the Europe tour I've had a bunch of fun local and regional gigs.
I'm spending the rest of the spring playing here and there and rehearsing
with the band to get us in shape for our big July
tour before we record in August. I'm also doing a special CD Fundraiser
show at Union Hall on July 12. Really hope you can make it.
And, strangely, I have discovered my song "Digging Graves,"
from my 2007 release Departures & Arrivals,
appeared in a Polish television series called Usta Utsa earlier this
month. Check episode 7's dramatic ending where my song appears:
Cheers,
Rebecca

the tour in Belgium in Brussels. If you have any friends

who has contributed. I still have a long ways to go so if you haven't
donated, please consider doing it. All the info is here.
Cheers,

Well hello,
So it's 2010, a year that sounds like it belongs in a space age future
world. Hopefully that world has some room for a semi-traditional twangy
singer-songwriter gal.
I'm taking it up a notch this year and really getting myself out there.
Here's what's in store so far:
* Release of the Brooklyn Songwriters Exchange artist
sampler: January
* Northeast shows: NY, NJ, CT, MA, and more coming soon
* South tour in February: lots of Tennessee action,
some NC too.
* Europe tour: UK, Netherlands and Belgium in March!
* Brooklyn Residency at 68 Jay Street Bar in April/May
* Full band tour in July to OH, NC, TN, GA to tighten
up our sound for...
* Recording a new record in August!!
Yahoooo. I'll update you more about that new record as a timeline is
finalized. All confirmed tour dates are here.
In the meantime, become a fan on Facebook and follow me, will ya? (Well,
if you like that sort of thing.) I update news as it comes in with gig
announcements, recording info, photos from my tours, and you can post
your thoughts too: facebook.com/rebeccapronsky
Also I have some brand new stickers and buttons which
you can get at any of my shows this year. They feature this characture
design (on right).
Thanks for supporting me thus far. Looking forward to sharing a new
year of music with you.
xo,
Rebecca

Hey there,
Happy November! I hope you turned your clocks back and dressed up real
silly last night. I went as the Log Lady from Twin Peaks --->
REST OF '09:
I'm gearing up for a very full few months ahead. In November and December
I'll be playing a lot in the Northeast (PA, NY, MA, NH, ME)
and then ending the year with a short tour through Austin, Houston
and New Orleans. It'll be my first time in Texas EVER.
COMING UP IN 2010:
I'm planning some exciting trips for early next year. In Februrary,
I'll be heading to the Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis
and touring there via Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia.
In March, I'll be doing some shows in the UK to support
Lucy Wainwright Roche's CD Release
Tour. More details about all that soon. All confirmed tour dates here.
COMPILATION:
The local songwriting compilation CD I organized is done. Brooklyn
Songwriters Exchange Volume 1 looks and sounds great. (For
those of you who don't know, I've been hosting a local songwriters series
monthly for a few years now and this compilation is the first in what
we hope to be many volumes of good local music. More about the Brooklyn
Songwriters Exchange here.)
BSX Volume 1 will be available free at all BSX shows and includes my
song "Big Kid" plus selected tracks from 13 other local songwriters.
If you don't live in NYC, I will be bringing the CDs with me to my tour
dates so you can pick one up from me when I'm in your town. I'm really
proud of all the great music on this disk and the community of artists
in Brooklyn that are featured.
Thanks again for your support and enjoy what's left of 2009.
All the best,
Rebecca

a real blast and our best tour to date. We had the privledge of visiting
some new cities as well as returning to some of our favorite spots.
Thanks so much to all of you that came out to support us and listen.

Happy September!
The summer has been great and all, but it's definitely getting on time
to cool down, and I know so, because it's almost my birthday...
My birthday is always falls around Labor Day weekend, which means it
signals a last chance for summer fun. This year, I've decided to lower
the pressure by touring southward, ending the month in the warmer states,
thereby extending summer a little longer.
I begin September with individual gigs in Boston, NYC, and Philadelphia
before embarking on a two week Midwest / South tour.
Highlights include my first visit to Pittsburgh and first-ever shows
ever in Ohio and Kentucky, an in-studio performance on North Carolina's
great WNCW, plus opening two shows
opening for alt-roots artist Carrie
Rodriguez in Tennessee and Georgia.
Show times, ticket prices, more details, etc are
here.
The rest of the fall includes more local and northeast shows in Northampton,
Boston, NY, Philadelphia and many more TBA, plus I'll be working hard
on a compilation CD for my music series the Brooklyn
Songwriters Exchange. We will be putting out a volume one compilation
of our favorite local Brooklyn artists and releasing it before holiday
time. More on that soon.
My EP was reprinted a few weeks ago and looks fancier than before. It
is still available at all shows or by mail via Nine Mile Records and
also digitally via iTunes
and eMusic.
Looking forward to an action-packed fall and hope to see you out on
the road! September dates are listed here.
xo,
Rebecca

Why hello...
It's officially stopped raining daily in the northeast and we are finally
doing this summer thing. Since I refuse to let it end early, I'll be
touring to warmer climates in late September. I'll also be playing in
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, plus
visiting Ohio and Kentucky for the
first time. And I'll be back down in Tennessee, North
Carolina, and Georgia again. In the meantime,
I've some local shows and two others upstate in Ithaca and Rochester.
Rich and I joined Freedy Johnston for a few shows over the past few
weeks and it was a lot of fun. We also had a great time doing our first
co-bill at Club Passim in Boston, and I will be back there for the Campfire
Festival over Labor Day weekend. My series the Brooklyn Songwriters
Exchange has been going very well lately. We have been presenting some
great talent to large, attentive audiences.
In other news, I've completely sold out of copies of my EP and am having
them reprinted, a bit snazzier this time, so be sure to pick one up
at an upcoming show. You can also download the title track, "The
Best Game in Town" for free by clicking here.
The whole EP is also available for download on iTunes, eMusic and Rhapsody.
Hope you are feeling good. If you need some summer reading, may I recommend
"In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan? One of the most enlightening
books I've ever read. If you need a summer movie, go see Food Inc. It's
very powerful and eye-opening.
That's all folks. Hope to see you on the road.
xo,
Rebecca

Two videos of us playing live on WDVX in Knoxville, TN just surfaced
thanks to the Knoxville News Sentinel's videographer Talid Magdy:

Hello
friends!
Hi there friends,
WHAT'S HAPPENING:

Greetings
from Brooklyn where the ACs are working overtime and it hit a sweet
99 degrees on Monday.

Hi
Friends,

Friends!
The CDs are here!
